How are you handling soft 404s on dynamic pages?

Out-of-stock product pages, expired job listings, paginated archives that drop content — what's your strategy? noindex, redirect, leave alone, or something else?

Google treats a page that says something is missing but returns a 200 status as a soft 404. If the item is gone for good, return a 404 or 410, or redirect to a close replacement. If it will be back, keep the page useful, with details and alternatives. Share what your platform does by default.
